The band-tailed pigeon has a gentle presence, seen in small groups or flocks in coniferous forests or foraging in suburban open areas. The tail has distinct bands of gray shades, giving the bird its name. This pigeon is larger than many other pigeon species and has a distinctive purple-pink-grey coloring.

Appearance: Large dove, bluish-purplish gray feathers with yellow beak, white stripe behind the head, long neck

Size: Crow Size (1-1.5 feet)

Diet: Grain, seed, fruits and berries, acorns, nuts, flowers

Habitat: Urban/Suburban Areas, Grasslands, Forests

Range: Pacific Coast, parts of S.W USA and central Mexico
